The plastic pipe extrusion process contains two main stages. First is extrusion where plastic granules are melted with multiple heating, mixing, and compressing zones in the form of molten plastic. And the second stage is extrusion die-heads where the molten plastic takes the shape of the pipe profile.
The extrusion die-head is very important as the product quality and production cost is highly dependent on it.
How to Choose an Extrusion Head?
Any equipment used in the industry must be made with fine quality material and must have the best build quality. This depends on both quality of metals used for machining of molten plastic and there are sensors used to monitor temperature and pressure for various points via extrusion die head.
The die-heads used in Devikrupa Industries are made with special alloys that are capable to work in various conditions.
Multi-Layer Die Heads
The most important feature required for every pipe products manufacture is it must be capable to produce multi-layered pipe and advantages like:
Cost Saving
The pipes producing with this the small part is made of virgin raw material. About 20% in 3 layers or 10% two-layer configuration. For other 80 to 90% layer is made with low cost regrind materials.
The product coloring and visual identification with the capability to coat the thin outer section of pipe and with a colored layer or also used as colored marking lines on the pipe.
Die Design
If the die design is well optimized the product quality is excellent and this increases its service life. Devikrupa Industries uses a spiral die which makes the uniform pipe and it is free of weld lines. This increases the quality of the pipes. Also, the die-head’s contact surfaces are designed and machined with require angle, have low roughness with flush geometry. This avoids an unwanted decompression area and does not require continuous maintenance. The die’s exit is also optimized known as land area. If there is short land are, there is unstable flow and pipe has stability issue and there is a long lad area there is unnecessary friction and add pressure back to the die head. These die-heads are designed such as for eliminating high back pressure which results in lower die head and effect on output and efficiency.
The die-head is a very important part of any extrusion production line as the product quality directly depends on it.
