PVC Pipe and Its Manufacturing

PVC is undoubtedly the most trustable type of plastic for piping and it has been used for 80 years in various places around the world. It is strong and durable and 100% corrosion resistance when compared to metal piping and also less risk of succumbing to thermal or contraction. It is very economical and robust and available in various sizes with a range of fittings and can be used for both warm or cold-water applications depends on different types of PVC variants.

What is the PVC pipe used for?

It is commonly used for the manufacturing of sewage pipes, water mains, and irrigation. Having very long-lasting properties it is easy to install, lightweight, strong, durable, recyclable makes it cost-efficient and sustainable. The smooth surface of PVC pipes makes the water flow faster than the cast iron and concrete. It is manufactured in various lengths, wall thicknesses, and diameters according to international size standards like DIN 8061, ASTM D1785 and ASTM F441.

PVC Pipe Manufacturing

The PVC pipes are manufactured with extrusion of raw material like PVC.

First, feed the raw material pellets/powder into the PVC twin screw extruder. After that, the raw material is melted and heated in multiple extruder zones. It is extruding through a die to shape into a pipe. Then it is cooled down. In the end, the PVC pipes are cutting to the desired length.

For most of the plastic pipes, the manufacturing process is the same. The PVC pipes have two additional challenges of production and how to market the product.

Challenges of PVC Pipe Manufacturing

Increased Extruder Friction

As the nature of PVC plastic, it has very high amounts of friction and stress. This means there is no guarantee of long service life, as the PVC pipe production lines require the use of specialized extruders which utilizes twin-screw extruder configuration and also featuring the robust construction materials which can withstand the harsh PVC extruder operating conditions.

Competitors

As the PVC pipe is one of the most used types of piping, there is a lot of competition between manufacturers. So for manufacturers, it is very important to maintain quality and also has to offer a wide range of products at competitive prices. These aspects only achieve if the manufacturers have world-class manufacturing equipment which increases productivity with minimum price and manufacture a wide variety of PVC pipe sizes.

Product Range

The PVC pipes have come in various sizes and diameters and with each size, there is a variety of fittings. And for manufacturers, it is very important to provide a range of products.
